Product Style Information

“A” Type   This is the most widely used polymer in industry today, and it is the most cost effective polymer in relationship to performance.  This elastomer was designed in the late 1950’s for the space program and today is widely used as a general purpose FKM offering excellent fluid resistance to automotive  fuels & lubricants, as well as elevated service temperatures.

“B”Type  This is a terpolymer with an increased fluorine (68%) content is widely used throughout the Chemical Processing & Power Generation Industries, “B” types are specified for gaskets sealing mineral acids such as Sulfuric Acids and other aggressive chemicals that are hauled by rail, and bulk tankers.  “B” Types can be formulated with peroxide cure systems to resist strong acids, hot water and steam.

“F” Types  This terpolymer is the latest generation of “high” fluorine elastomers, with the addition of 2% more fluorine, (70%)  This is considered an excellent elastomer for sealing today’s  oxygenated automotive fuels and lubricants.  “F” types can  be formulated to resist concentrated aqueous inorganic acids, hot water, and steam.

F-E85™  is a proprietary compound designed for applications that involve the manufacture and sealing of Ethanol.  F-E85 can be supplied in sheet, extrusions, and O-rings.    F-E85™ is trademarked by FKM-Industries Inc.

Viton Extreme® and Aflas® while both of these are specialty FKM products, they offer the broadest chemical resistance of the FKM families.  These hybrids, while very expensive, offer a wide range of fluid resistance.  They can be designed to  resistant to automotive & off-road high pH lubricants, greases, & coolants, oil exploration & production fluids, drilling mud, and sour gas.  They are recommended for resistance to certain solvents, and extremely harsh environments, like low molecular weight amines and ketones.

FFKM (Perfluoronated elastomers) This family of elastomers is widely known by the trade name that its inventors gave it. (Kalrez®)  Kalrez was invented by Dupont, and has been sealing the aggressive fluids and elevated temperature environments for over 25 years.  While Kalrez® parts are only available through the Dupont Performance Elastomers exclusive distribution network, many companies like FKM-Industries has partnered with  world class polymer suppliers to offer a comparable FFKM products.
